The Seat of Destiny
An Elf Ranger who favors stealth and melee combat, is also uncle too Otheyum the "Relentless"
Caladriel born of house Thornbow elder brother to Thuraviel of house Thornbow grew up in the Mierani forest in the elven capital city, which is nestled high in the trees. Most people describe Caladriel of being as gruff as a dwarf, with only slightly less harsh words. And most would be right; Caladriel lives a very free, hard naturalist lifestyle even when he did live among his people. Caladriel prefers the woods to almost anywhere else in the world, and is very good operating there. While his younger brother Thuraviel learned the ways of the druid (although he was never good at this part of his lifestyle), and would later take up a more combat driven lifestyle. Caladriel apprenticed himself to an elven scout and learned the ways of the woodsman. This scout would later turn him onto a famous elven sword maestro who taught Caladriel a specialized swordsmanship style utilizing the elven curveblade, a swordsmanship style which relies much more upon skill of arms and speed than sheer overpowering brute force.
After learning all he could from the maestro, thanks to help from his younger brother Caladriel would be asked to join the elf king’s secret elite protection unit. This group’s sole task is to secretly root out and find threats that are directly focused at the king, and to stealth fully and secretly take them out. Caladriel and Thuraviel enjoyed being able to work so closely together and were honored members of the unit, Caladriel even received a suit of armor as a gift from the elf king himself. Then a tragedy would strike. The elf king was throwing a party for a group of elven nobles at his palace, and some drow managed to sneak past everyone and make it into the party. The king’s guards were able to fight and defeat the drow; however blame for them ever making it to the party would fall on the secret protection unit. And that blame would somehow be transferred onto Caladriel and Thuraviel who were then exiled from ever returning to any of the elven cities.
The two brothers then stayed together and took up the lifestyle of adventurer eventually joining a party 4 other people, this group would stay together adventuring for 10 years. Thuraviel would eventually take a lover from among the party a human female fighter. Caladriel considered this group to be his best friends, even more so than his elven brothers used to be. This would be the best years of Caladriel’s life, that is until tragedy struck him yet again. While the party was exploring an abandoned temple to a dark god, they would stumble upon a devil that had been trapped there for several hundred years by a paladin who had given his life force to trap it there. This devil struck out at the party killing three of their members very quickly and disabling the female fighter and Caladriel himself, leaving only Thuraviel to face the threat alone. That is until the devil gave Thuraviel an offer he couldn’t refuse so to say. The devil needed a vessel in order to leave his imprisonment, and the female fighter was pregnant at the time with Thuraviel’s child, so the devil said that he would spare the woman and the other elf if Thuraviel would willingly offer up his body to him so he could escape the holy prison that he was set in. Thuraviel accepted this offer to save his brother and the woman he had come to call “wife” and the unborn child he would never get to meet otherwise. Caladriel wanted immediate revenge against this devil, but was too injured to go after him right away. Caladriel and the woman who was his brother’s lover parted ways almost immediately after recovering from their wounds, she said she was giving up the adventurer’s lifestyle and would be returning some place close to her home and settling down for awhile.
Caladriel continued to hunt for his brother for awhile until the trail went cold, and he had no other means to try and track him. He returned to elven lands, where he continues to live and hunt for what he perceives as threats to the forest and to the elven people, even though he is not allowed to return to the cities of his people. He lives alone in the wild, with only his hawk animal companion Talyn to keep him company. Every once in awhile people will seek him out to help him with a mission of some sort or another, however he usually will not remain in a party for long periods of time and returns to being a solitary person, because being in a party reminds him too much of the one he lost all those years ago.
Caladriel was sought out by his nephew Otheyum, and has helped him several times with different things. And Caladriel wants to be there when they do eventually catch up to his possessed brother to do what he can to help his brother be free of the evil inside of him. But Caladriel will continue his haunt until then, ever vigilant ever there in the shadows.
